• Experimental or conceptual furniture systems

What Makes a Strong Furniture Entry?

A strong submission should explain the problem or opportunity the design addresses, how the object is used, why its form and proportions are appropriate, how materials and production methods support the concept, and what distinguishes it from existing alternatives.

What the Jury Considers

The jury may consider originality, function, ergonomics, construction, material selection, craftsmanship, manufacturability, durability, repairability, sustainability, user experience, visual coherence and relevance to the intended market or context.

Prototype, Production and Concept

Depending on the relevant rules, WAIDE can consider products in production, limited editions, prototypes and concept-stage furniture. Entrants should state the development stage accurately and avoid presenting a rendering as a manufactured product.

Sustainability and Circular Thinking

Furniture may demonstrate environmental value through efficient material use, responsible sourcing, disassembly, repair, recyclability, modularity, longevity, local production or other credible lifecycle strategies.

For Designers, Brands and Manufacturers

Furniture can be submitted by the designer, design studio, brand, manufacturer or authorized project representative. Credits should identify the creative and production roles accurately.
